Food City Race Against Hunger Sweepstakes Check Presentation
Galax, VA. -
Tuesday, Dec 30, 2014.
Since 1992, Food City has held their annual Race Against Hunger holiday campaign, co-sponsored by Kellogg’s which benefits local hunger relief organizations. “Hunger is a serious problem in America. Food City and Kellogg’s are proud to be part of the Race Against Hunger,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City’s president and chief executive officer.
Throughout the promotion, $1, $3, and $5 scanable cards were available at Food City checkouts, along with specially marked collection canisters. Customers wishing to make a donation simply selected the desired dollar amount and it was conveniently added to their grocery total.
“Millions of Americans need food assistance each year. The Food City Race Against Hunger campaign is one way we can help meet those needs,” adds Ron Bonacci, vice president of marketing for Food City.
The 2013-2014 Race Against Hunger campaign raised over $400,000. The funds are being awarded by Food City representatives over the next several days to numerous hunger relief organizations throughout our region.
“We would like to thank Kellogg’s and our loyal customers for making this promotion such a huge success. Their generosity will help feed thousands of our friends and neighbors here in our area,” adds Smith.
With every dollar contribution made using their Food City ValuCard, shoppers were also electronically entered for a chance to win their choice of a spectacular season of racing at Bristol Motor Speedway or a $2,500 contribution made to their favorite charity.
Tammy Harmon of Galax, VA was selected as this year’s sweepstakes winner. In lieu of the racing package, she elected to have Food City make a $2,500 contribution to Galax Hope House Ministries, where she currently serves as Director.
