Richlands Library Renovation Project Check Presentation

Richlands Library Renovation Project Check Presentation
Abingdon, VA. - Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022.

Today Food City made a significant donation to the Richland Library Renovation Project.

One of the earliest buildings constructed in the Town of Richlands, VA, the building known as the Williams House is home to the Richlands branch of the Tazewell County Public Library and is arguably the Town’s most historically significant building.  Constructed in 1890, it was originally built to serve as a three-story office building for the Clinch Valley Coal and Iron Company. The Williams House also effectively served as the very first hospital in the Town of Richlands.

The building began its incarnation as a public library on October 1, 1984. The Williams House has been listed on the Virginia Historic Landmark Registry since 1982 and is located within the Richlands historic district. It has served the community for nearly four decades as the Tazewell County Public Library, offering a variety of services to patrons of all ages.  The library also hosts community outreach services, educational programming and activities for adults and children, and essentially acts as a business center providing services such as printing and copying functions, as well as internet access.

In order to continue to serve future generations, edifice renovations are desperately needed. It is imperative to not only preserve this historic landmark, but to continue engendering a love for reading and books through public library access.
